Object cannot be placed in server rack
Problem
An object is to be placed in a server rack on a specific rack unit. The desired rack units are free and the object type is configured as positionable — yet the object cannot be placed.
Check prerequisites
For successful placement, certain categories must be correctly filled in on both the rack and the object to be placed.
1. Form factor of the object
The object to be placed requires the number of rack units in the Form Factor category.
Without this information, i-doit cannot determine how much space the object needs in the rack. Open the object, navigate to the Form Factor category, and enter the rack units.
2. Rack units in the rack
The server rack itself must have the total number of available rack units defined in its Form Factor category. Without this information, no rack units are available for occupation.
3. Mounting position (front/rear)
In the Rack category, it must be specified for the desired rack units whether they are occupied from the front or rear. Without this information, i-doit cannot position the object.
Rack view for verification
Via Extras > Rack View, the current rack occupancy can be visually inspected. This provides an immediate overview of which rack units are free and whether the mounting positions are correctly configured.
