Dialog-Plus fields: Managing dropdown lists
Many categories in i-doit use dropdown fields with predefined values — known as Dialog-Plus fields. Examples include manufacturer, model, operating system, or department. These values can be maintained in two ways.
Adding values directly in an object
When editing a category, Dialog-Plus fields are identified by a small plus icon next to the dropdown.
- Click the plus icon next to the dropdown
- Enter the new value and confirm
- The value is saved and immediately available in all objects
This method is suitable for quickly adding individual values during daily work.
Managing values centrally (Dialog-Admin)
For structured management of all Dialog-Plus values, the Dialog-Admin is available:
Administration > Predefined Content > Dialog-Admin
In the Dialog-Admin you can:
- Create new values — click "New", enter the name, optionally assign a constant for API access
- Edit existing values — changes take effect immediately in all objects using this value
- Delete values — select the checkbox and click "Purge"
The dropdown list is sorted alphabetically by category. Custom Dialog-Plus fields appear under the entry "Custom Dialog+".
Deleting values
Deleting a Dialog-Plus value via "Purge" is irreversible. The value is removed from all objects where it is used.
Before deleting, it is recommended to use a report to check which objects currently use the value. This helps avoid unintended data loss.
Some values are system-protected and cannot be deleted. These are required for the core functionality of i-doit.
Permissions
The permission system can control which users or groups are allowed to create, edit, or delete Dialog-Plus values. This is useful for ensuring data quality and preventing uncontrolled creation of values.
