CONTECHNET GRC Suite: Common issues and solutions
The CONTECHNET GRC Suite (version 4.x) is a desktop application for information security, BSI IT-Grundschutz, and risk management.
Installation and startup
SQL database error on startup
Solution:
- Check if the SQL Server service is running (
services.msc) - If the database is corrupted: run
incheckup.exein the installation directory - Check log files:
C:\Program Files (x86)\CONTECHNET Suite\log
Installation on Windows Server 2025
Installation on Windows Server 2025 may fail if the database is not set up correctly. A remote session with support is recommended for initial setup on new server versions.
Reports and documents
Report is empty despite existing data
Possible causes:
- Assets are not assigned to the scope (Asset Management > Scopes)
- The approver or date is missing in the report settings
- Certain report types only show data from completed assessments
Print output takes very long / hangs
Solution:
- Run
incheckup.exeand check the log file - Log directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\CONTECHNET Suite\log - For VPN connections: check VPN settings (split tunneling may help)
Security incidents and measures
Measures cannot be created
Solution: Check whether a document has been uploaded — in some areas, a file attachment is required before a measure can be saved.
Notifications
Emails in the approval process are missing
Solution: Check the SMTP configuration in the Suite. Email settings are located in the application's system settings.
General diagnostics
For most problems, incheckup.exe is the first point of contact:
C:\Program Files (x86)\CONTECHNET Suite\incheckup.exe
This checks database connection, configuration, and system integrity. The generated log files are also helpful for support.
