How do I assign objects to locations?

Objects are assigned to a parent location object via the Location category. This creates the hierarchical location view.

Assigning a location

1. Open the object to be assigned to a location
2. Switch to the Location category

1. Select the desired target in the Parent location field (e.g. a room or server rack)
2. Save

The object will then appear in the location view below the selected location.

Prerequisites

• The target object must be a location-enabled object type (e.g. Building, Room, Rack)
• Location capability is enabled in the Object type configuration

Tips

• Using List editing, multiple objects can be assigned to a location simultaneously
• In a server rack, objects can additionally be positioned on specific rack units
• Location assignments can also be made via CSV import and the API
